This will be a private guided tour (in English) through Mai Po Nature Reserve, which is accessible only to foreigners or to group tours. It will last 3 hours, beginning from 10:00am.
We will be guided by Dr. Martin Williams, SCMP writer specializing in conservation and environmental issues; author of “Hong Kong Pathfinder: 24 day-walks in Hong Kong”; and contributor to “1001 Natural Wonders: You Must See Before You Die”,”Central Ridge and West” (covering HK country parks from Ma On Shan west to Tai Lam) and Hong Kong Tourism Board booklet “Discover Hong Kong Nature”. He is also the producer of “Mai Po Marshes – Hong Kong’s Wetland Superstar”, a 10-min film. More info about Dr. Williams here.
Please note that there will be 16 participants on this trip so it will be a large group. This is to meet WWF required minimums. Public WWF group tours have up to 25 people.
To learn about and take pictures of birds, particularly those native to Hong Kong.
Expedition Costs (updated):
Round Trip MTR Fare ($47 from HK Station) + Round Trip Taxi Fare (~$15 per person) + WWF Tour Fee ($90 per person) + Dr. Martin Williams Guiding Fee ($110 per person) + Optional Donation to HKEI (~$20 suggested per person) = ~282HKD per person
The WWF Tour Fee and Dr. William’s fee is payable by bank transfer, cheque or cash and is refundable only if you cancel at least 5 days before the tour’s start. You will pay the MTR and taxi fares directly yourself on the day of the event. The suggested donation, which is entirely optional, can be given via bank transfer, cheque or cash. The HKEI is entirely volunteer-run and your donation helps to keep the project running by paying for website costs and other expenses.
What to bring:
Binoculars (available for rent for $20 at the reserve), water, snacks, good walking shoes, a birding guide if you have one.
